The Importance of Youth

Why is it that little girls get so excited when it is their birthday, and somewhere between the age of 20 to 25 females start wanting to avoid their birthdays? Could it have anything to do with how or society views age? Society tells us today that we want to stay looking young for as long as we can, and many products have been produced to try to help us achieve this.

There are an endless amount of products that claim they will help defend against aging. Products such as lotions, creams, and now even make-ups, are making claims that if you use their produce, you can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Anti-aging products are being advertised more and more. The new anti-aging products that have been produced have created a need to advertise. These advertisements target women between the ages of 40 and 50, the message of the advertisement look younger with the help of this product. The advertisements play off of some women’s insecurities, which only make women more self conscious about there age, just one more way our body image has been influence by advertising.
Older people use saying like, “youth is wasted on the young.” I think these little comments show reason to be concerned about the emphasis put on youth. I feel people should become more confident in themselves as they age. I wonder if using insecurity’s about age to sell a product is decreasing the way older people view themselves. I still believe the saying, “with age comes wisdom,” and I hope that when I am older I will be proud of my age, and embrace the time that I have been given.
